Compare HyperX Cloud Alpha S and Cloud III gaming headsets. We break down sound customization, comfort, and value to help you choose.
Quick answer
Choose the HyperX Cloud Alpha S if you want customizable virtual 7.1 surround sound and bass control; pick the HyperX Cloud III for a proven, comfortable design with upgraded audio drivers.
Sound customization vs. refined audio
The Cloud Alpha S includes an audio control mixer that activates virtual 7.1 surround sound and lets you balance game audio and chat without menus. It also has bass adjustment sliders on the ear cups for personalized low-end response. The Cloud III takes a different approach: its new 53mm drivers are tuned for an optimal listening experience out of the box, with no on-headset controls. If you enjoy tweaking your sound profile, the Cloud Alpha S gives you that flexibility; if you prefer a set-and-forget approach, the Cloud III delivers a polished soundstage without extra adjustments.
Comfort and build for long sessions
Both headsets use HyperX's signature memory foam in the headband and ear cushions, so extended gaming sessions remain comfortable. The Cloud III is an evolution of the Cloud II, which is known for its comfort, sound quality, and durability. The Cloud Alpha S builds on the Cloud Alpha design and adds bass adjustment sliders to the ear cups. Neither headset is heavy, but the Cloud III's slightly simpler design may appeal if you want a streamlined fit with fewer protrusions.
Microphone quality and chat clarity
The Cloud III features an upgraded 10mm microphone that captures crystal clear voice communication. The Cloud Alpha S uses a detachable microphone that works well for in-game chat but doesn't highlight a specific size upgrade. If clear voice pickup is a top priority, the Cloud III's newer mic design gives it an edge.
